WCW Starrcade
Dec 25th 2011
Dark Match
Kaval vs. Richie Steamboat
William Regal vs. Jack Swagger vs. Shatter(Gunner)
No backstory, just a way to get these three onto the card. Regal just came off a big feud with Daniel Bryan. Swagger hasn’t done much since he failed to become number one contender to the title back when WCW was relaunched. He’s had solid wins but not big enough ones to get him anywhere. Shatter is Dolph Ziggler’s Bodyguard.
WcW United States Championship
Alex Riley© vs.
Cody Rhodes Riley defeated Ziggler for the title back in September at Clash of the Champions and has since defended it against Jack Swagger, Rhino and William Regal but lately Cody Rhodes and his lackey, Ted DiBiase, Jr, have been a thorn in Riley’s side, costing him matches and double teaming him. Riley got a measure of revenge when he destroyed the set of Cody’s interview segment and then DDT’ed Ted onto the announce table.
WcW Cruiserweight Championship
Sin Cara© vs. Jushin Liger
This rivalry started when the number one contender, Liger, teamed up with Sin Cara in a tag team match and they lost due to some miscommunication. The next week they faced off in a 6 man tag with other Cruiserweight stars. Cara’s team ended up winning when Cara pinned Liger. The Next week when Lucky Cannon and Adam Cole attacked Cara it was Liger that came out to make the save. They then tagged up again to beat The Fantastic Express(Cannon and Cole)
Rey Mysterio vs. The Great Muta
This is the third an final time these two will meet. Over the past few months of their feud there have been many run-ins and attacks. The most interesting being Muta trying to cripple Rey backstage with Chairshots to his knee. While Muta was back in Japan Rey returned and beat Muta’s student, Kiyoshi. Since then its been a stalemate between the two, Rey misting Muta, Muta laying Rey out with a shining Wizard.
WcW TV Championship
Paul Burchill© vs.
Vampiro vs. Shelton Benjamin
Not too much of a backstory. Burchill beat Shelton for the belt. Vampiro nearly beat Burchill but Burchill got DQ’ed and savagely beat Vampiro. Vampiro teamed up with Shannon Moore to beat Burchill and Regal before the PPV.
WcW Tag Team Championship
Slater and Gabriel© vs. The Murder City Machine Guns
This is the rematch between the two teams that stole the show at the last Clash Of The Champions. MCMG almost won the belts but Gabriel was able to sneak out a win for his team by catching Shelley in a small package when he went for a pin. This time MCGM vow to win the belts, if they don’t, they can’t challenge for the titles till Slater and Gabriel lose them.
Randy Orton vs. The Big Show
The next Nitro after Halloween Havoc, Randy Orton invoked his rematch clause and challenged Dolph Ziggler for the title. Orton was closing in on regaining the title when The recently turned, rampaging Bigshow came out to ringside and distracted Orton. Ziggler took advantage and hit the Zig Zag and picked up the w1in. Bigshow then entered the ring and drilled Orton with The KO punch and a choke slam, injuring Orton’ shoulder. The next week WcW commissioner Kevin Nash tried to confront Big Show about the inccident but Show ended up Knocking him out too. Orton returned to the Nitro without doctor permission and began ambushing The Giant and demanding a match with Show. Some of these attacks turned out good but some failed badly and made the injury worse. Nash made Orton sign a waiver and booked the match for Starrcade. On the second to last Nitro before Starrcade Show called out the Injured Orton out to the ring. A fight broke out and Show attempted a Chokeslam that was countered into an RKO. Show rolled out of the ring but Orton wasn’t done. He handcuffed The Bigshows arm to the inside ropes with two pairs of handcuffs while show was on one knee. Orton then punt kicked the arm and broke The Bigshow’s wrist, making them even for the match.
WcW World Championship
Dolph Ziggler © vs.
Daniel Bryan Daniel Bryan just wrapped up a best two out of three series with his mentor William Regal, proving he is the best technical wrestler in the world. He won a Triple Threat against Jack Swagger and Shelton Benjamin on Nitro to become the new number one contender to the title since Orton used up his rematch. Ziggler and his bodyguard Shatter treid to out number and destroy Bryan before the PPV but a little help from Shelton Benjamin prevented that. Bryan has twice made Shatter tap out, once in a tag match where Ziggler bailed and once in a singles match, now he aims to submit Ziggler and become world champion.
