| Tick tock goes the Doomsday Clock. It ticks down, hour by hour, minute by minute, second by second. The EWA is on a collision course with an event that will shake it to its very core. The man they never wanted enters the ring with a chance to become a champion, there champion, a staple in their company. He was told he would never be back inside a EWA ring again, he’s been kicked out and arrested and yet here he is, on the verge of becoming a champion in their company. The effects could be catastrophic, tick tock, tick tock, tick tock.
FADE IN
4 MINUTES TO MIDNIGHT
The scene opens inside the offices of Thomas Davis, he is on the phone leading back in his black chair with his feet up on the desk.
Thomas Davis: Yeah he’s coming in today.
Thomas looks down at his watch.
Thomas Davis: Really should be here any moment.
Thomas sits up in the chair and straightens his tie, he is nodding at what the other person on the line is saying.
Thomas Davis: Yeah, I know, he will need them for his safety, I will talk to him today and get him to sign off on the idea.
Thomas stands up and starts to shuffle through papers on his desk and pulls out a folder.
Thomas Davis: I know he has to agree, I have the folder here, I will handle it, hey, got to go I think he’s here now, yeah ok, I will get it done!
Thomas slams the phone down as his assistant Kathy opens the door and pokes her head in.
Kathy: Excuse me Mr. Davis, but um Xavier Reid is on his way up and you wanted me to tell you when he arrived.
Thomas Davis: Thank you Kathy.
Thomas walks out from behind his desk and out of his office, he walks past Kathy and down the hall to the elevator, he looks in the mirror and straightens his tie one last time before the elevator dings and the doors slide open. Xavier steps out dressed in a pair of jeans and a black t-shirt.
Xavier Reid: Jesus Christ, have you been standing there waiting on me?
Thomas Davis: No, Kathy saw you walk into the lobby and I figured I would met you at the elevator.
Xavier Reid: So you had Kathy looking out the window, I told you I would be here, even though I have more important things to do before I leave then come here.
Thomas Davis: Yeah and I told you we had some business to disgust before you leave the country, plus I have updated passport and travel arrangement.
Xavier Reid: And that’s the only reason I’m here Thomas, so where is my stuff?
Thomas Davis: Come on in the office X.
Thomas opens the door to his office and Xavier walks in and takes a seat in front of the desk, Thomas shuts the door and takes a seat behind the desk. He opens the folder and takes out Xavier’s passport and tickets.
Thomas Davis: This will allow you back in the US even though you are not a citizen, I had to get a few forms signed since you are here on a work visa, but it’s fine and taken care of, this is your ticket, leaving LaGuardia and arriving at Aeropuerto Internacional de la Ciudad de México, it’s a direct flight.
Xavier Reid: Um, well thank you, you are one hell of a travel agent there Thomas, if the law doesn’t work out for you you can always fall back on his, well I’m off
Thomas Davis: There is one more thing we need to disgust Xavier and this is the reason I needed you to come in today.
Xavier Reid: Get on with it, I need to pack.
Thomas Davis: You are not going to Mexico alone Xavier.
Xavier Reid: Oh really, did you decide to tag along Thomas?
Thomas Davis: No, I will not be going but these guys will.
Thomas pushes a button on the intercom.
Thomas Davis: Kathy please send them in.
The door opens and six very large men with no necks walk into the room.
Xavier Reid: FUCK NO!!!
Thomas Davis: Xavier listen to me
Xavier Reid: ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?
Thomas Davis: They are for your protection Xavier
Xavier Reid: PROTECT ME, DO I LOOK LIKE I NEED PROTECTED?
Thomas Davis: Listen, DAMN IT LISTEN TO ME! You are going down to a company where everyone involved want to kill you, everybody from the owner to the last man in the roster, from the vendors to the fans. They are all waiting to get their shot at you, their last shot. You have pissed them off and they are waiting for you like a street gang, all of them, the entire country. Mike King has promised your ass up to them, he got the rules tossed out and all it takes in one idiot down there to get a little too much tequila in them decide he wants to gut you. You heard Chavez, he’s not checking anyone coming through that door, now I know you don’t want them but this isn’t up for debate, these six men are going with you down there to watch your back. They are going to protect you from you don’t see. They are trained for that, the best money can buy.
Xavier Reid: Yeah and who’s footing the bill for this?
Thomas Davis: Don’t worry about that, it’s taken care of, all you need to worry about is going down there and winning the EWA Gladiators Championship and getting back here in one piece.
Xavier Reid: That sounds great in theory but it’s going to make me look weak!
Thomas Davis: It’s not going to make you look weak, it’s going to make you look smart.
Xavier Reid: I’m going to look weak rolling in Mexico with my own security team and I’m not weak, I told you I was going to handle this, I’m not going to be fucked over by Miguel and Manning, they want to stack the odd against me well fine, it’s going to make it that much sweeter when Manning has to hand me that belt in Chavez’s back yard. I’m going to kill two companies in one night Thomas, they will never be the same after the 30th.
Thomas Davis: I know this Xavier, but you have to get to the 30th first, if you don’t make it there in one piece you can’t make history. I have told them to get you to the arena, to make sure you walk down that ramp and that’s it, they will not get involved, well they won’t unless they need to be.
Xavier Reid: No.
Xavier turns and faces the six man security team.
Xavier Reid: You will not get involved in my match, do I make myself clear!
The third man from the left steps forward.
Security Guy: Mr. Reid, we will not get involved if you don’t want us to get involved, but we have been instructed to keep everyone and I do mean everyone away from that ring. Mike King is yours to handle.
Xavier Reid: As long as we are clear on that.
Thomas Davis: Perfect, then it’s settled!
Thomas grabs a his folder and hands the six man security team their travel info.
Thomas Davis: Now all you have to do Xavier is go make history.
Thomas hands Xavier his things and smiles.
3 MINUTES TO MIDNIGHT
The host of the Wrestling Round Up Pete Vickers walks behind the desk in his grey suit and takes a seat. He takes a drink of his water and then places it under the desk out of view from the camera. This is an important night for him and he wants everything perfect. He shuffles his papers nervously as the intro music plays and the cameraman counts down, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1!
Pete Vickers: Good evening, we are pleased to be joined tonight by two polarizing figures in the wrestling business today, the General Manager of the EWA Frankie Manning and the Owner and General Manager of the MCW Miguel Chavez.
The screen splits into three sections with Pete Vickers in the middle, Frankie Manning to the right sitting at a desk in his office and Miguel Chavez to the left sitting in front of a huge MCW banner.
Pete Vickers: Gentleman welcome to the Wrestling Round Up.
Frankie Manning: Thank you, pleasure to be here.
Miguel Chavez: Hola Senor Vickers.
Pete Vickers: Gentleman, the wrestling world has been abuzz ever since you announced this joint collaboration between your two companies on the night of August 30th.
Frankie Manning: Well it’s an exciting event, never in the history of this business has two separate companies come together like this.
Miguel Chavez: This is our chance to show the world that Mexican Championship Wrestling is still a large player in this business and a force to be reckoned with and will not be pushed around anymore.
Frankie Manning: Nobody was trying to push you around Miguel, it was a misunderstanding and it has been resolved.
Pete Vickers: There seems to be some disagreement between the two of you.
Frankie Manning: No Pete, we are fine.
Miguel Chavez: Yes now that he knows that we are on par with the EWA. Xavier Reid was signed with the MCW and even though he was he appeared on EWA TV, like our contract with him meant nothing.
Frankie Manning: We have been over this, I was told by him and his lawyer that he was unsigned and did not now he still had one match on the contract with you until your lawyers called us after him and Mike King won their tag team match at Shatter Point and signed to meet at Rising from the Flames.
Miguel Chavez: And if I hadn’t you would have continued to make money off of MCW talent.
Pete Vickers: Mr. Chavez, why did you wait so long to contact the EWA and Mr. Manning?
Miguel Chavez: It was simple, I believed that this man was thumbing his noise at me and the MCW and not caring that he was using my talent, so I wanted to wait until the time came where it would financially impact him and his company
Frankie Manning: But
Miguel Chavez: But, I do now believe that Mr. Manning had no knowledge of this contract we had with Xavier Reid.
Frankie Manning: I sat down with my lawyers who advised me to pull Xavier Reid from this match until he truly was free but our fans wanted to see this. Our fans have been offended by this man and want to see him get his so I sat in my office alone and then the idea came to me. It was clear that there was still heat between Xavier and the fine folks of the MCW so I did a little research and found out that the EWA fans and the MCW fans had at least one thing in common, their hate for this man, now where it sat our fans where not going to see him have to pay like the MCW fans didn’t so I started to think and came up with this idea. I ran it by my lawyers who reached out to Mr. Chavez and after some long talks we figured out it could be done. Mike King had already been wrestling in the MCW on spot appearances due to the contract he signed with Mr. Kash and the EWA and with Xavier still having one more match on that contract it made since.
Miguel Chavez: But it had to be in our ring with our officials and in Mexico!
Frankie Manning: For our EWA Gladiators Title.
Pete Vickers: Unbelievable that two men like yourselves who are in charge of these companies could come to this agreement.
Frankie Manning: Well we really had no choice on the matter, we both want to see this happen, we want to have Xavier finally get into the ring with Mike King.
Pete Vickers: Here is a question, couldn’t the MCW have booked this match alone? Xavier was there’s for one more match and if Mike King wrestlers down there why not cut you out?
Frankie Manning: Because I have the lynch pin in all of this, a EWA contract. It’s the one thing Xavier wants, Xavier Reid’s contract with the MCW states he can’t appear on live TV with another contract, which he did break by appearing on Shatter Point but he could just go to another Indy wrestling company that ran tape delayed shows, he was never going back to the MCW.
Miguel Chavez: I believe Mr. Manning is sort of right on that statement, I believe we could have waited Reid out but we were satisfied with these terms.
Pete looks down and holds his figure to his ear and pushes in his ear piece.
Pete Vickers: Gentleman I am being told he have a guest on the hotline who is very much involved in this matter, please welcome to the Wrestling Wrap Up Xavier Reid!!!
Via Phone Xavier Reid appears on the upper right side of the screen.
Xavier Reid: I’m sorry I just couldn’t take this anymore, I was sitting here listening to this garbage and had to call in.
Pete Vickers: You have another view on the subject we are discussing?
Frankie Manning: Of course he does.
Miguel Chavez: More lies coming from his mouth.
Xavier Reid: Well I thought that was the theme of this little interview, well more spinning the truth to better ourselves. I laughed at this idea that the MCW is anything more than a once great company that is now a glorified Indy promotion.
Miguel Chavez: We have Pay Per View son.
Xavier Reid: Yeah you do, but here is the little bit you left out Miguel, you only got Pay Per View after my match was announced, until then, you were denied time and time again. The rest of the card is garbage and they know it, nobody is going to drop a dime on that but once you had me, well they listened didn’t they? That brought them to the table and I know you promised them a great card and I know you have been given a three show deal for Pay Per View but what is going to happen after Across the Borders? Are you hoping that the fans will see something they like and come back? I think you have had too much tequila. You have garbage talent and without me you have nothing and where you see this as your last great chance to be important again being on Pay Per View is what’s going to bury this company.
Miguel Chavez: Are you crazy? Being back on Pay Per View is going to lunch this company and people are going to pay good money to see Mike King beat your ass all over Mexico.
Xavier Reid: No, sadly that is not what is going to happen. You and that country full of idiots are putting all your faith in Mike King, MIKE KING! A man who seems to not be able to win anymore, yes people will buy Across the Border to see this match, of course they will, but you can’t lunch a company on a man that is walking out the door. I will not be around to sell your crappy produce and Mike King will not be in any kind of wrestling shape to help you out and the world will sit in front of their TV on the 30th waiting on my match and watching all the crap you send out there. There is a reason that those guys are in the MCW, IT’S BECAUSE NO ONE ELSE WANTS THEM!!! GET IT, THEY SUCK, AND YOUR COMPANY SUCKS!!! You waited to spring this on me because of money, you need it and this is the only way you can get it. You need me Chavez and you can’t deny that.
Frankie Manning: Yeah well you need me Xavier and you will settle this. You put me and the EWA at major legal risk by never telling us this, so I will be there on the 30th, I’ll be missing my very own show to make damn sure you give that man and his company the match you owe them.
Xavier Reid: Don’t make me laugh Manning, you are going down there because you and this clown both believe that Mike King will beat me so badly, will leave me so bloody that I will be taught a lesson, you want a front seat to that plain and simple.
Frankie Manning: Well you are right on that Xavier.
Xavier Reid: Then the jokes on you, because you will have a ring side seat to me once and for all ending Mike King, exposing him for the loser he is. He wants to bitch about me stealing his TV time and offending his loyal fans, he wants to tell you people that’s why he stuck his noise in my business, well if you want to buy that bull shit go ahead but he’s full of shit. He did that because he is simple jealous of me, he’s jealous of the fact that I’m everything he use to be in this business. He’s praying for that hometown support, he’s praying that they come to his rescue and will help him out but it’s not going to matter, Mike King, I’m simply better than you, better in every aspect of this business and if gold is the only thing you want in this business you need to drag Gaga out and make him your partner both inside the ring and out and go after the tag team titles once you heal from the beating I am going to give you. I had no beef with you, but you stuck your noise into my business and that can not go unpunished and Manning you will be force to sit and watch as I take out another member of your roster and then you will have to climb into that ring and hand me your title and raise my arm in victory.
Pete Vickers: Gentleman that is all the time we have today, thank you all for coming on. The joint promotion Rising from the Flames/Across the Border can be seen live on August 30, 2011, this had been The Wresting Round Up.
The screen goes blank.
2 MINUTES TO MIDNIGHT
Outside The Colosseum is packed, it’s the EWA’s Fan Spectacular Event, the stars of the EWA are sitting in booths allowing the fans to get pictures and autographs. The roster has just finished their pre-show meeting for Rising from the Flames. Many of the guys on the roster file out and walk to their booths where the fans have already started lining up. One of the last out of the meeting room is Xavier Reid. He pulls his hat on and lowers it over his eyes as he makes his way out into the hallway. As he reaches the door his six man security team is waiting. They are on their way to the airport to make the 2641.98 mile track from New York to Mexico City. The head of the security team is Dwayne and he is the first one to step forward as Xavier approaches.
Dwayne: We are going to be cutting it close Xavier, we have to check in two hours before an international flight.
Xavier Reid: Which leaves us three hours, what’s the problem?
Dwayne: How long is this fan event going to take?
Xavier Reid: Are you being serious?
Dwayne seems confused as he looks down at his watch.
Dwayne: You can only stick around for 30 mins man, tops, traffic is going to be a bitch and we can’t miss this flight, so go quickly and sign some shit and smile for the photos and then we have to split.
Xavier Reid: Let me ask you something, do you even watch out show?
Dwayne: Yeah, my kid brother loves this shit.
Xavier Reid: Yeah and who’s his favorite wrestler?
Dwayne: Well he likes Marsham.
Xavier Reid: Yeah, who else?
Dwayne: Man I don’t know, he likes Black Jesus and oh he loved El Pablo, he even has the mask.
Xavier Reid: That’s nice, has he ever said anything about me?
Dwayne doesn’t seem to know how to answer this question.
Dwayne: Well yeah, I told him I was hired as security for you.
Xavier Reid: And?
Dwayne: He told me to toss you off the bus once we land in Mexico.
Xavier Reid: Sounds about right.
Dwayne: He’s a punk ass kid who doesn’t know shit! Hell he wanted a pink fucking mask, I’m not even sure he plays for the right team.
Xavier Reid: Look over there, past the promo booth, right to the left, see that, that’s my booth.
Dwayne: Yeah, you have a few people there.
Xavier Reid: Look at the first guy in line, what T-Shirt is he wearing?
Dwayne: Ah fuck, a Mike King T-shirt, want me to remove him?
Xavier Reid: No, because I’m not going to my booth, we are heading straight to the airport.
Dwayne: I thought it was mandatory for you all to be out there?
Xavier Reid: It is, but none of these other guys have to fly to Mexico, Dwayne, all those people in my line just want to be able to look me in the eye and tell me I suck, that Mike King is going to kill me and then you know what they are going to do?
Dwayne: Take a swing at you?
Xavier Reid: No, they don’t have the balls, they are going to slide their photo over and ask me to sign it, well fuck that, I’m not going to sit there and act like I care what those people think. They might not like me but after Across the Border they will learn to respect me and if they don’t then they will learn to fear me. I have set out to get rid of the garbage in this company, to give them a better product but they are too damn stupid to see that. They love Mike King, why, because they are sheep, to stupid not to follow the heard. They want to hold on to the old days, back when their hero Mike King mattered in this business but they can’t go back. Unfortunately for Mike King the wrestling business doesn’t have a pause button, we can’t freeze time and stay in the moment where he was considered as rising star in this business and a sure thing to one day become a World Champion, no, the business moves on, it evolves and new stars come up the ranks. Sure he had his time, it was brief but he had it, he was considered a star but in a blink of an eye it was gone, the business flew by him and he stood still, stuck still believing he was a top dog and not able to understand that he is in fact out of his league. I carried him to this match, the man hasn’t won a singles match since god knows when, but he is blinded by his past glory and can’t see the truth that is right in front of him, that this match no matter where it is and what terms it is fought on is just a formality, the belt has already been engraved with the name XAVIER REID. I’m not afraid of a street fight, hell I was the first ever EWA Underground Champion, this is right up my alley, I have put two of the EWA’s ‘greats’ on the shelf due to savage beatings, does he think he stands a better chance than Buck Evan and Ronnie McNeil? No, I will not lower myself and sit there in front of those fans and act like I care what they think. I have said my peace, the time for talking is over. Pull the car around, we have a plane to catch.
Dwayne motions to one of the guys who walks out the doors and motions for the SUV to pull around.
Dwayne: Stay close to me.
Xavier Reid: Not on your life pal, these people can’t hurt me.
The SUV pulls up and the crowd see it and rushes it hoping it’s one of the stars, the security team steps out and then Xavier walks out, the fans erupt in boos and through whatever they have in their hands in his directions. Dwayne tries to shield Xavier who seems unfazed and jumps into the SUV. Dwayne jumps in next and motions for the driver to go.
Dwayne: Driver, the airport, now!
Xavier Reid: I can’t wait to see the looks on these people’s faces the next time I’m at The Collosseum, they have no idea what’s about to happen to them.
As the SUV pulls away the EWA fans beat on the windows as Xavier sits back and smiles.
1 MINUTES TO MIDNIGHT
The crowd outside gate number 5 was enormous. People passing by might expect all these cameras and photographers to be waiting for a movie star or famous band but for those standing around waiting will be disappointed. What they didn’t know was this was the gate of the arriving 747 from LaGuardia NY and the passenger on that plane that all these people were waiting for was Xavier Reid. Someone in the Mexican Championship Wrestling front office had leaked the information to the press and other wrestling media but it just wasn’t the Mexican wrestling press that was covering this, no, in fact media outlets from Canada, the US and even Japan had made their way to Mexico City for Across the Border for this match. It was being viewed as the match of the year and they wanted to be here in case Xavier’s claims were true. He had been saying he was going to rock the wrestling world, the wrestling media outlets wanted to be here just in case he did.
The doors are opened and the media rush the doors, wanting to be the first to scream out their question or get the perfect shot of Xavier Reid but what they forgot was this was a commercial flight, so as the media crowds around the door the unexpecting passengers come face to face with flashbulbs and a scream mass of people.
Crowd: XAVIER!! ARE YOU READY FOR MIKE KING? ANY WORDS TO THE MEXICAN FANS?
The first passengers stop dead in their tracks as the mass of people rush them and start walking through the group of passengers, airport security rushes over and starts to pull the media back to allow the passengers off the plane, they continue to snap pictures blindly as the people exiting the plane rush away. Then the crowd erupts Xavier Reid steps out of the doors dressed in a pair of jeans, solid red t-shirt, a pair of Oakley sunglasses and a hat pulled down low. He pulls his back pack is over his right shoulder and looks up at the crowd that runs towards him, as they are about to swarm him his personal security step forward and surround him, Xavier smiles as they make their way through the airport as the people scream out to him/
Crowd: YOU’RE AN ASSHOLE, KING’S GOING TO KILL YOU? DO YOU HAVE ANYTHING TO SAY TO THE MEXICAN FANS? XAVIER PLEASE, DO YOU HAVE ANYTHING TO SAY?
Xavier removed his sunglasses and raises his hat up, he grins knowing they are all hear for him, weither they love him or hate him they were there because of him and he knew it and more importantly he loved it.
Xavier Reid: Do I have anything to say to the Mexican fan base? Yeah, enjoy every last second of this, because after August 30th you and your crappy MCW will once again go back to being a nothing company!!! The only reason you matter right now is because Miguel Chavez is holding me hostage with my contract and all these people are here to see what I’m going to do and I will not disappoint. I promised to deliver a history making performance at Across the Border and I will deliver. The unthinkable will happen, the man that was not wanted by the EWA will become a champion and the Fat Man himself will have to stand in that ring and hand me HIS Gladiators Title. Doomsday is upon the EWA and nobody can stop it, not Mike King, not Frankie Manning, not Miguel Chavez or the MCW, not the people of Mexico. I promised an apocalyptic event that would change the landscape of the EWA and mark my words I will make good on this, now, GET THE HELL OUT OF MY WAY, DOOMSDAY IS HERE!!!!!!
Xavier puts the glasses back on and lowers his hat and his security team pushes reports aside and they make their way out of the concourse.
FADE OUT
DOOMSDAY IS UPON THE EWA
