THE CONTRACT

The scene opens inside the offices of Thomas Davis, he is looking over a document sent to him by General Manager Frankie Manning and waiting for his client to arrive. He smiles and nods his head as he reached the final page of the document. His smile fades as he flips to the front page and then back to the final page. He slams his hand down on the desk as his intercom lights up.

Thomas Davis: “Yes Kathy.”

Kathy: “Xavier Reid is here to see you.”

Thomas Davis: “Thank you, send him in.”

Thomas straightens the document and slides them around so they are facing the seat in front of his desk. He adjusts his tie and waits for the knock at the door that comes and the door opens.

Kathy: “Sir Xavier Reid.”

Kathy opens the door and Xavier walks in sporting a new black and red X T-shirt and a pair of jeans, he shakes hands with Thomas and takes a seat, Thomas walks around his desk and sits down.

Thomas Davis: “Thanks for coming in this morning Xavier.”

Xavier Reid: “You said it’s important so here I am, what’s up?”

Thomas Davis: “I had a conference call with the EWA and Frankie Manning last night and this was sent over to me this morning.”

Thomas holds up the document the EWA sent to him and the document he had spent the morning reviewing.

Xavier Reid: “IS THAT WHAT I THINK IT IS!!!”

Xavier shoots up in his chair and grabs the document that has EWA on the top of the first page.

Thomas Davis: “Don’t get too excited, yes it’s a contract, just not what we were hoping for.”

Xavier Reid: “What do you mean, it’s a damn EWA Contract.”

Thomas Davis: “Look, right here on page two.”

Thomas takes the contract and flips to the second page.

Thomas Davis: “Well I told you if they book you in another match I was going to demand a contract or you would not compete, they are at a financial risk allowing you to compete in their ring with a contract, I explained this to Manning after last week when Mike King assaulted you with that chair and I also explained to him how we could have easily gone to the police that night and sued for damages as a non contracted employee.”

Xavier Reid: “I told you I wasn’t going to be a pussy and get the cops involved, I won last week that was the most important part.”

Thomas Davis: “I know this, but I had to at least toss it out there as a threat. He booked you in a match last week on the spot, without checking if you had already been booked, he’s treating you like a roster member and now he has you in a steel cage match with a title shot on the line, well I told him you would not be competing in that match without a contract.”

Xavier Reid: “That was one hell of a bluff.”

Thomas Davis: “Well it worked, kind of.”

Thomas taps his figure on the contract and Xavier reads it and then looks back up.

Xavier Reid: “A PART TIME CONTRACTED WRESTLER, RESULTS PENDING!!!”

Thomas Davis: “I told you it wasn’t what we were hoping for, it covers you if you are injured and it allows them to sign you to a full time contract at any point but once done they can not move this back to a part time contract and it allows you to still book on the indie scene.”

Xavier Reid: “I’m done with the indie scene, I’ve said that, I’m not going backwards anymore. I have shown time and again that I belong on this level. I know I was being black balled and that all I had to do is get my face on TV again and they would be forced to bring me back, I waited and waited for some stupid ass company to slip up and leave an opening, and Manning and the EWA did it, that stupid open challenge and what did I do, I went in there and won the title, TWICE, but he acts like that wasn’t good enough, I know Manning doesn’t want me in the EWA nor does that roster, with me there they will get less face time, but I don’t care, I’m here to stay.”

Thomas Davis: “We just need them to sign the full time contract and they will the second they feel like you can walk with one of their belts. Frankie Manning is a fucking hot head, we both know that, he was so pissed at the way Mike King talked to him, he wanted to show that he was in charge and he was going to be respected and in doing so he made this weeks match and was forced to crack the door into the EWA open farther. We should really send Mike King a big giant thank you card because for one night he replaced you on Manning’s hit list.”

Xavier Reid: “The guy is a puppet, wants to scream at the top of his lungs over and over again that he will not be a pawn in this battle but every time he opens his month he gets more involved in it, he just is too damn stupid to see it. Screaming about what he wants and should get, challenging me to a best 2 out of 3 falls in Mexico, like I would ever go back to that fucking hell hole.”

Thomas Davis: “Well he also wanted him and Ronnie McNeil in a steel cage this week and how did that work out for him.”

Xavier Reid: “Oh he got it alright, technically, I just don’t know where Mike King gets off demanding anything, ok, I can see if one of the big stars made these demands, Manning would have to give in, but it’s Mike King, MIKE KING!!! Delusional fuck, I really think they should have his head check, he really might not be stable.”

Thomas Davis: “He’s a desperate man.”

Xavier Reid: “He’s a delusional man who has no business demanding anything. He doesn’t belong in title match, he should be opening matches, facing lesser opponents until he can finally pick up a win here in the EWA, Christ he’s acting like a star in this business, like what he thinks should matter and be taken into consideration, it was kind of funny to see Manning put him in his place.”

Thomas Davis: “Well don’t turn a blind eye, Manning is still got you in his cross hairs, he wants to prove to everyone that he is the one in charge, that he’s running the EWA and will not be handled.”

Xavier lifts up the EWA contract.

Xavier Reid: “Well that worked out for him, I remember the day when he said I would never set foot in a EWA ring and now look, Main Event and one win away from getting a crack at the Gladiator Title, I’ve come a long way from being told I would never set foot in a EWA ring.”

Thomas Davis: “This isn’t what we wanted but it’s a start, sign it, go out this week and win that match and I will get you the long term contract, I guarantee it.”

Xavier slams the contract down and flips to the last page, he grabs the pen on Thomas’s desk and signs the contract.

Xavier Reid: “Send it back to Manning and tell him I look forward to becoming the first EWA Gladiator Champion just like I became the first EWA Underground Champion even though their crack staff still hasn’t added it to the books.”

Thomas Davis: “Don’t worry about it, Manning and the EWA might not want to admitted that but go out and win the Gladiator Title and you will be taking air time away from bigger names than Mike King.”

Xavier hands the contract to Thomas who slides it into a white envelope and pushes the intercom.

Thomas Davis: “Kathy.”

Kathy opens the door and walks over to the desk.

Thomas Davis: “Please have a courier deliver this to Frankie Manning of the EWA, and mark it urgent please.”

Kathy: “Right away sir.”

She turns and walks out of the room.

Thomas Davis: “And that’s that.”

UNLEASHED ONTO THE WRESTLING WORLD

The scene opens on the set of The Wrestling Insider, the host Craig Logan is looking through his notes as a pretty young blonde shows Xavier to the booth. Craig stands up and shakes hands with Xavier as if they are old friends. He hands him a headset and signals the soundboard that he’s ready.

Craig Logan: “Hello wrestling world, today I am being joined by a man that has taken the wrestling world by storm, his actions over the last few weeks have been the topic on many wrestling forums. He will be in the Main Event this week on EWA’s Shatter Point, Xavier Reid, what’s going on man?”

Xavier Reid: “Long time man, I’m great.”

Craig Logan: “Many of you might not know but X and I go way back to our days in Canada where I covered him in Edmonton Wrestling, funny thing was I called Frankie Manning last week to set up this interview and he asked me who I wanted, I told him I wanted you but since you weren’t under contract I guess I would just call your direct and set it up, then two days later I got the call saying they were sending you over, how does that happen I asked and he told me they had come to terms with you, so I guess congrats man.”

Xavier Reid: “Well let’s not get to ahead of ourselves, it’s a partial contract, just enough to keep their asses safe if I injury myself.”

Craig Logan: “So basically everything to this point you were not covered?”

Xavier Reid: “Yeah, you got it.”

Craig Logan: “What a moron, I mean I have little respect for Frankie Manning as it is but wow, the fact that he has a job at this point is just shocking. I know they will say I’m partial but there is no reason you shouldn’t have been signed to a EWA contract sooner, I mean from day one, you are better than most of the scrubs they have on their roster now.”

Xavier Reid: “You are preaching to the choir buddy.”

Craig Logan: “I mean is this guy blind or retarded? He’s running a new company and there you are sitting there ready to be signed and he goes with those guys, well breaking new, Frankie Manning is on drugs!!!”

Xavier Reid: “You might want to ready up for a law suit man, he was very clear last week, he is the man and we are all living in his world.”

Craig Logan: “Let him sue me, I haven’t got shit, but lets move on from Manning’s short comings which aren’t just limited to the professional life from what I hear from the ladies but onto last weeks Shatter Point, man I saw when the match was made and I thought you were screwed man.”

Xavier Reid: “Many people did.”

Craig Logan: “Three on one X.”

Xavier Reid: “I know man.”

Craig Logan: “Mike King and the EWA Tag Team Champions The Hometown Heroes.”

Xavier Reid: “Yes sir.”

Craig Logan: “And those three stars, and I’m using the word star very loosely here, but those three stars couldn’t get the job done, they couldn’t beat you, ARE YOU FUCKIG KIDDING ME!!!!”

Xavier Reid: “What can I say, I warned them, I warned The Hometown Heroes that this was going to make them look bad, they are suppose to me the best tag team here in the EWA and they couldn’t beat one man, hell I should really go out and try to win the tag team titles myself at this point, but I tried to warn them, but of course they didn’t listen, but there is the chance that Jun didn’t understand me, I we all know that Mark is kept on a short leash and does everything Ruthless tells him like the good little wife he is.”

Craig Logan: “Yeah it’s clear she wears the pants.”

Xavier Reid: “I told them they couldn’t trust Mike King and well look what happened, he cost them the match and now they are the laughing stock of this company. This was supposed to me punishment for me, and I picked up the win, hell I need more punishment like that because I’m looking damn good right now with a win over that group.”

Craig Logan: “They can’t deny that, it’s impressive and let me be the first to say it was a genius way to win that match and you should thank Mike King, his little speech allowed him to get disqualified.”

Xavier Reid: “Thank you, you see Mike King can’t help himself, he thinks too small, he doesn’t think big picture, he was so mad and upset that he got a no decision against Ronnie McNeil that he wanted to make sure that never happened again, he wanted some stupid fucking NO INTERFERENCE COMMITTEE for us to be apart of, Manning should have granted him his wish and watch as the moron is screwed week in and week out, I mean Manning should really get some sort of reward for the Special Olympics for looking after one of their athletes.”

Craig Logan: “I’ll make a call for you man.”

Xavier Reid: “Does this clown forget how all this started, he interfered in my match with Ronnie King, it was perfectly fine for him to get involved and cost me not only a match but a contract and why? Because I was taking TV time away from him, so follow this logic, the EWA fans were being treated to a Super Card match, not a Shatter Point match, but a Super Card match and he cheated them the finish of that match, a Super Card match, sure it had an outcome but the wrong man won, I had Ronnie McNeil beat, just like he did and he cost me, so we are even pal.”

Craig Logan: “But the second it happens to him it’s a god damn tragedy.”

Xavier Reid: “Exactly, but he will tell you he did that because I will turn my back on all the fans out there, and that he did this for all the EWA fans who I would abandon the first second I faced hard times, is this guy serious?”

Craig Logan: “I think he likes the sound of his own voice.”

Xavier Reid: “Lets get something straight right now once and for all, it’s true I really don’t give a shit about the fans, it’s true, I really don’t care what they think of me, I’m not doing this for them, I’m a wrestler because I want to be a wrestler, but who are all these fans I’ve walked out on? Ok, yeah I did bolt the MCW but can you really blame me? I had a chance to further my career but should I have just stuck it out in MCW because of their fans? Are you fucking crazy man? That place was a shit hole and if you like it well don’t let me stop you, go be the little hero to all the little Mexican kids that will one day cross over the boarder illegally because they will see what I see, THAT MEXICO IS A SHT HOLE!!!!”

Craig Logan: “Very true.”

Xavier Reid: “And ok, sure I walked out on New York City Wrestling, well maybe walk out is too strong, I was there and gave them something they are still talking about and I did so even after their ass of a GM tried to strong arm me and censer me after telling me I would have an open mic, you see I’m not that bad guy everyone claims I am, but when someone crosses me I will not just back down, I will destroy you and everything you have and that is important to you.”

Craig Logan: “See Buck Evan’s title reign, MCW’s credibility, New York City Wrestling’s TV deal and Mike King’s win/lose record.”

Xavier Reid: “Yes, see you get me, but to claim I’m going to turn my back on the EWA the moment it gets tough is ridiculous. If that was the case I would have already split man, but don’t think I’m sticking it out for the EWA fans, I’m doing so because I know being a champion of a major promotion means MONEY!!! So Mike King, I’m sorry to break this to you, I’m not going anywhere, you can have the EWA fans, I will take the EWA gold.”

Craig Logan: “Speaking of gold this week you face off in a tag team steel cage match against Ronnie McNeil and Ruthless Aggression where the winners will face off for the EWA Gladiator Championship, the problem is your partner is Mike King, are you worried at all that he will turn on you? He claimed last week that what makes him dangerous is that he can strike at anytime.”

Xavier Reid: “Craig, that’s a load of crap! Sure I might be worried if my partner was anyone other than Mike King, but this guy has a hard on for wins and titles, and like I said, the dude thinks small.”

Craig Logan: “Explain.”

Xavier Reid: “You see it’s public knowledge I have signed a par time contract with the EWA, if we win this match Manning is going to be forced to sign me long term full time, he can’t risk me walking with the belt.”

Craig Logan: “True.”

Xavier Reid: “So the smart play, hell what I would do is fuck me over this week and make damn sure I don’t sniff a title shot, that would allow Manning to keep me off, but Mike King is flawed. He thinks small, just like this No Interference Committee, he only worries about himself, he can’t see the big picture and that is why this dude is where he’s at in life. He wants this win, hell he thinks he needs this win, because according to him, wins equal title shots, but what he doesn’t see is if he wins this week he hands me the EWA Gladiator Championship, he can’t beat me, he’s out of his league, but lose, cost me this match and he could get rid of me once and for all and have a better chance of being someone here in the EWA because as long as I’m around he will be a cheap understudy of Xavier Reid.”

Craig Logan: “You do know he’s going to hear this right, I mean you just gave him the blue print of how to rid you from the EWA.”

Xavier Reid: “Craig it doesn’t matter, Mike King isn’t going to throw this match, I’m not worried, he wants to win, it’s all he cares about. If he cared so much for the EWA fans and wanted to protect them or make me pay for what I have done he would lose, but he just can’t do that because as honorable as he says he is Mike King is still top priority to Mike King, he’s no better to those fans than I am, he cares more about himself than the fans, he’s a fucking hypocrite.”

Craig Logan: “God I love having you on, there is no sugar coating anything.”

Xavier Reid: “I’m not fake man, I call it like I see it, I’m not worried about Mike King this week, he wants to prove that he can beat Ronnie McNeil, he wants that win and will do everything he can this week to get it inside that cage, he’s coming there to win that match and unlike Ronnie, Mike King will have a stud as a tag team partner.”

Craig Logan: “So you don’t think much of Ruthless.”

Xavier Reid: “Oh our new Underground Champion, no man, I think it’s a joke she got herself in this match but hell Mike King is in it so I guess she has a place if King does. She has single handily brought down a belt that at one point was the most exciting thing in this business.”

Craig Logan: “So why not go take the belt off her?”

Xavier Reid: “Because I don’t feel like looking over my shoulder or having to look up everywhere I go for flying squirrels. I have moved on and have crossed that belt off my list to becoming the EWA’s first Grand Champion, I don’t need to go backwards in my career Craig, I have my sights on the Gladiator Title and Ruthless is just some chick in my way, this is the problem with letting the girls have equal rights here in the EWA, they get put in matches like this and when I hurt her, and it’s not if, it will happen Craig, I will have all the damn women’s groups after me but she wanted to be treated just like everyone else.”

Craig Logan: “Any worries about her wanting payback for making The Hometown Heroes look so damn bad last week?”

Xavier Reid: “Craig, this is Ruthless Aggression we are talking about, what is she really going to do? Sure she might slap around Mark Jackson and be tough with him but I’m not a pussy like him, she might think she’s a tough gal but lets not kid ourselves here, I beat her tag team champions last week, by myself, what is she really going to do to me? Sure I’m guessing she is pissed, rumor has it she was pretty rough on Mark, and I mean rough, he really took it hard.”

Craig Logan: “Oh god, well it’s going to be a rumor now X.”

Xavier Reid: “But I am who I am, and she is who she is, and we are not in the same league, so I wish her the best but at the end of the night the Underground Title is the only belt she is going to get near.”

Craig Logan: “And Ronnie McNeil.”

Xavier Reid: “Listen, the guy has talent, you can’t take that away from him but man, how can you almost lose to Mike King? You talk about someone killing all momentum you had going, they thought you were going to come in and be a star, but you almost lost to Mike King man, you should be thanking me for saving you from that embarrassment.”

Craig Logan: “I’ve had e-mails this week from people who brought up how you had planned to break Ronnie’s ankle at Retaliation.”

Xavier Reid: “Craig I warned everyone out there not to take Manning’s money, to not show up for that match, I warned them that I was going to make a statement on them, he was warned, but Ronnie showed up and got what was coming to him. I was ready and willing to snap that ankle just like I did to Buck, I back up what I said, it wasn’t personal, but I wasn’t going to allow him to get a free pass, I sent the message that night, I back up what I say and Ronnie found that out first hand, but I saw that night just how good he was, all the talk was legit, he was as good as advertized, we all saw it, they were able to sit back and say look, we have Ronnie McNeil, but as good as he was, I WAS BETTER!!! So where was the uproar over me not getting the pub? I had taken the man they brought in and put up on a pedestal and had flat beat him that night, he was done but we don’t hear how great Xavier Reid is, no we hear how great Ronnie is and how he’s on the fast tract to stardom here in the EWA, but this week I derail those hopes. This week Ronnie McNeil gets knocked off that pedestal and back into the mix of mediocrity with the likes of his tag team partner Ruthless because like it or not, I am a star and I will not be denied. I have positioned myself to raise to the top of the EWA, positioned myself to the point that Frankie Manning will have no choice but to open up the check book and scratch off one hell of a check to keep me here, he should have just signed me before the Underground Free For All, but he backed out and now it’s going to cost him, BIG! I will be the EWA Gladiator Champion, this week, it’s just a formality, everyone that wishes I would just go away, well I’m sorry I’m here to stay, I’m not going anywhere, so Manning if you are listening call the engraver, it’s X A V I E R R E I D! Make sure it’s spelled right on the belt and my lawyers will be in touch.”

Craig Logan: “Well we are out of time, Xavier it’s been a pleasure man, I would wish you luck but lets face it, you don’t need it, you are the future of this business and if Manning dicks you around let me know, I have Victor Kennedy number and I’m guessing he’s love to have you, well for Xavier Reid, I’m Craig Logan and this has been the WRESTLING INSIDER!!!!!
